Purpose Statement:
Bring impactful pharmaceutical products to customers as quickly and efficiently as possible via leading China product team and working closely with JAPAC and global teams to deliver the most competitive asset strategies
Major Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
- Defines and execute China development strategy for assigned assets which contributes to sustainable, successful growth of AbbVie pharma business.
- Ensures that the individual development asset add significant value to China pharma, through effective, rapid and broad development of pipeline assets, with adequate consideration of market potential and commercialization aspects.
- Ensures optimal performance of China Product Team (ChPT) by leading, driving and coordinating all development activities for China
- Foster continuous improvement mindset as one team from learnings throughout asset lifecycle
Role
Develop an integrated development strategy for China.
- Creates the most competitive strategy based on regulatory requirements and commercial needs.
- Brings new products to the market through fastest and cost-effective approach.
- Provides inputs to global Asset Strategy Team (AST) ensuring China development strategy is integrated into the global development strategy.
- Ensures alignment on the program development strategies within ChPT and with relevant stakeholders including China commercial, JAPAC, Intercon and AST.
- Represents ChPT at ASTs and the appropriate decision bodies in China.
Lead the China Product Team
- Sets challenging individual asset-related objectives for and together with the team members to be considered in team member’s objective setting.
- Maintains motivation within the team: Foster ‘trust and transparency’ within the team in order to optimize team functioning.
- For asset-related activities, provides regular feedback to team member concerning their contribution to the team performance to target objectives.
Accountable for advancing assets with speed, quality and good control in budget.

- Drives and steers the implementation of the asset strategy in China, by leading ChPTs and cooperating with ASTs.
- Proactively develops proposals to manage/mitigate/resolve risks for a project in China.
- Holds ChPT members responsible for committed timelines and budgets in China.

- Build strong connections with the global Asset Strategy Leadership group.
- Be a key contributor to China portfolio strategy.
- Contribute to align China strategy with cross affiliate stakeholder management.
- Lead AbbVie-wide initiatives to build leadership capability and enhance team performance, directing activities with appropriate internal stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s Degree required in life science area; Advanced degree highly preferred (e.g. PhD, MBA).
- Relevant experience in drug development (minimum of 5 years; 10+ years preferred) in a pharmaceutical/biotech setting. Experience in Oncology is preferred.
- Strong strategic thinking, collaboration, facilitative leadership, executive function, and problem-solving skills. Ability to assimilate new knowledge rapidly and apply that to asset strategy.
- Experience leading a team in a cross-functional environment. Ability to objectively exercise judgment and create pragmatic solutions to address complex cross-functional problems, and to be accountable for obtaining stakeholder advice to make informed decisions, in order to move a program forward in the face of uncertainty or incomplete data.
- Ability to lead and motivate team members from across functional areas; must be able to lead through influence and bring out the best in others. Ability to delegate appropriate accountability and decision making to supporting teams and functions.
- Ability and willingness to respectfully challenge team members and functions, and manage conflict, in order to assess fully all opportunities, options, risks, and mitigations.
